C12200 Phosphorus deoxidized copper, high residual

DHP, C122. Pure coppers. Tube, pipe and fabricated parts that get brazed or welded. Standard plumbing and refrigeration copper.

Specification

UNS
C12200
Conductivity
85 percent IACS
Machinability
20 (C36000 = 100)
Specification
ASTM B152 (sheet, strip, plate), ASTM B75 (tube), ASTM B42 (pipe)
Usual temper
O60 annealed, or H55 light drawn for tube

Published typical values for the alloy, not a promise from any shop. Where these numbers come from.

How it machines

Cuts like the other pure coppers. The phosphorus is there for weldability, not for chip control, so expect the same burrs and the same tooling rules. Mostly encountered as tube and fabricated parts rather than bar stock.

Watch out. The phosphorus that makes it weldable costs you about 15 points of conductivity. Do not use it where the electrical number matters.

Typical parts

  • Tube and pipe assemblies
  • Brazed manifolds and fittings
  • Refrigeration and plumbing components
  • Fabricated parts that are welded

When not to specify it

Do not use it as a conductor when the electrical number matters. The deoxidant costs about 15 points of IACS against C11000, which is a real loss on a busbar or a contact.

Drawing callout

Replace the bracket with the ASTM specification for your product form. The RFQ builder does this for you and adds edge, finish and plating lines.

Other pure coppers

Above 99.9 percent copper. You specify these when a conductivity, thermal or vacuum number is on the print, and you pay for them in machining time.

  • C10100
    Oxygen free electronic copper
Ultra high vacuum parts, hydrogen brazed assemblies, sinker EDM electrodes, RF and cryogenic components.
  • C10200
    Oxygen free copper
Oxygen free work that does not need the tighter purity control of C10100.
  • C11000
    Electrolytic tough pitch copper
The default electrical copper. Busbars, terminals, lugs, contact blocks, cold plates, heat sinks.
