How it machines

Cuts exactly like C11000: long continuous chips, heavy burrs, built-up edge if the tool rubs. Sharp high rake uncoated carbide, real feed per tooth and flood coolant. No free-machining substitution is possible when it was specified for vacuum or hydrogen service, so the cycle time is what it is.

Watch out. Costs more than C110 and buys about one point of conductivity. Specify it for the oxygen content, not for the conductivity.

When not to specify it

Do not specify it for conductivity alone. The gain over C11000 is about one point of IACS and the price and lead time are both worse. Specify it when the oxygen content matters: ultra high vacuum, hydrogen brazing, or where outgassing is measured.

Replace the bracket with the ASTM specification for your product form. The RFQ builder does this for you and adds edge, finish and plating lines.

Other pure coppers

Above 99.9 percent copper. You specify these when a conductivity, thermal or vacuum number is on the print, and you pay for them in machining time.

  • C10200
    Oxygen free copper    Oxygen free work that does not need the tighter purity control of C10100.
  • C11000
    Electrolytic tough pitch copper    The default electrical copper. Busbars, terminals, lugs, contact blocks, cold plates, heat sinks.
  • C12200
    Phosphorus deoxidized copper, high residual    Tube, pipe and fabricated parts that get brazed or welded. Standard plumbing and refrigeration copper.
