C15000 Zirconium copper

CuZr, C150. High strength and heat resistant coppers. Resistance welding electrodes for aluminum and coated steel, and parts that must stay conductive while hot.

Specification

UNS
C15000
Conductivity
93 percent IACS
Machinability
20 (C36000 = 100)
Specification
Specification depends on product form, confirm with the supplier. RWMA Class 1.
Usual temper
TH04 precipitation hardened and cold worked

Published typical values for the alloy, not a promise from any shop. Where these numbers come from.

How it machines

Machines like a pure copper in the soft condition and like a tougher, more abrasive material once aged. Usually supplied and machined TH04. Sharp tooling, moderate feeds, and expect slower cycles than on C11000.

Watch out. Keeps most of copper’s conductivity and gains real high temperature strength. Softens if it is overheated in service or in machining.

Typical parts

  • Resistance welding electrodes for aluminum and coated steel
  • Seam welding wheels
  • Electrode caps and tips
  • Hot conductive parts

When not to specify it

Do not use it for general purpose steel welding, where it will deform sooner than a Class 2 alloy. Do not overheat it in service or machining, because it softens.

Drawing callout

Replace the bracket with the ASTM specification for your product form. The RFQ builder does this for you and adds edge, finish and plating lines.

Other high strength and heat resistant coppers

Age hardened alloys chosen for strength, hardness or hot performance. Conductivity drops, sometimes a long way, and none of them machine quickly.

  • C18150
    Chromium zirconium copper
Welding electrodes and holders, high duty contacts, parts that see heat and load together.
  • C18200
    Chromium copper
The general purpose resistance welding electrode material. Also mould inserts and hot stiff parts.
  • C17510
    Nickel beryllium copper
Welding electrode holders, high conductivity springs, parts needing strength with moderate conductivity.
  • C17200
