C14700 Sulphur copper

SCu, C147. Free-machining coppers. The same job as C14500 where a little more conductivity is wanted.

Specification

UNS
C14700
Conductivity
95 percent IACS
Machinability
85 (C36000 = 100)
Specification
ASTM B301 (free-cutting copper rod, bar, wire and shapes)
Usual temper
H04 hard drawn

Published typical values for the alloy, not a promise from any shop. Where these numbers come from.

How it machines

The same free-machining behaviour as C14500 with sulphur instead of tellurium as the chip breaker. Clean threads, short chips, sharply reduced deburring. A little more conductive than C14500 and less commonly stocked.

Watch out. Thinner on the ground than C14500. Check stock and lead time before you specify it.

Typical parts

  • Screw machine parts
  • Terminals and connector bodies
  • Fittings and adaptors
  • Electrical hardware

When not to specify it

Same restrictions as C14500: not for vacuum, not where certified 100 percent IACS is needed. If your supplier cannot get it, C14500 is a direct substitute in almost every application.

Drawing callout

Replace the bracket with the ASTM specification for your product form. The RFQ builder does this for you and adds edge, finish and plating lines.

Sulphur copper, UNS C14700, [ASTM spec for your product form], temper H04 hard drawn

Other free-machining coppers

A small addition breaks the chip. Around four times the machinability of pure copper for a few points of conductivity, which is the best trade available in this material family.

  • C14500
    Tellurium copper
Turned parts, threaded components, connector bodies, terminals, fittings. Anything feature heavy.
  • C18700
    Leaded copper
High volume screw machine work where free-machining behaviour and conductivity are both needed.
