How it machines

A forming brass. Machinability rated 30, nowhere near C36000, and it work hardens. Fine for drawn and stamped parts, a poor choice for turned or milled ones.

Watch out. It is a forming brass, not a free-machining one. Its machinability rating is 30, nowhere near C36000.

Typical parts

  • Deep drawn parts
  • Stamped and formed components
  • Decorative hardware

When not to specify it

Do not specify it for a machined part because it says brass. If conductivity does not matter and the part is machined, C36000 is the brass you want.

Drawing callout

Replace the bracket with the ASTM specification for your product form. The RFQ builder does this for you and adds edge, finish and plating lines.

Other brasses, for reference

Not copper, listed so the machinability scale has a fixed point and so the two most commonly confused brasses are not specified by accident.
